One more reason to support McCain and Obama

According to this post on CNN, apparently Ann Coulter would be willing to support Hillary Clinton if John McCain is the Republican nominee. I could probably write quite a bit about Ann Coulter’s complete lack of sanity, but I’m sure it wouldn’t be anything that somebody else hasn’t already said. Besides, her own quotes are enough to show how ridiculous she is. Have a look at her quotes on Wikiquote. Some particularly stupid ones are in the Islam section.

So anyway, I have to agree with Jessie that Obama and McCain as the presidential candidates would be quite a breath of fresh air for the country. (Be sure to have a look at her own post on the subject.) For a long time, it seems like the country has always felt like they were just choosing the “lesser of two evils” as they always say. Obama and McCain seem to be candidates that you can actually, dare I say, get excited about as the next President. What I most admire about them (and this could certainly all just be my perception as molded by the media or whatever) is that they don’t seem to say whatever it takes to get elected. (Here is a press release about what John McCain had to say about Michigan and South Carolina jobs.) As opposed to Clinton and Romney, again potentially just my perception, who seem to just pander to whatever crowd they’re speaking to at the time.

It feels a little odd too that the race could actually come down to Obama and McCain. When Barack Obama was running for Senate in Illinois and Jessie was excited about him then, I asked her what she would do if they ran against each other for President. She thought about it for a few minutes and said that luckily she probably wouldn’t have to make that choice because it seemed very unlikely at the time that McCain would run again (the guy is over 70, afterall) and Obama was just getting started in his career in the larger political arena. I also have to say that it makes me feel like I actually know something when Jon Stewart agrees with me. :) Check out his interview on “A” Daily Show with Jessie’s political speech writer hero Peggy Noonan.

  1. Ann Coulter is scary. I think she knows that and she won’t be surprised when this shows up on her Google blog alerts. But the whole threat to stump for Hillary if McCain gets the Republican nomination is, I think, clever – she won’t have to vote for McCain, and she could do serious damage to Hillary by actually supporting (or pretending to support) her. I think Ann Coulter may have found a way to have the best of both (wicked) worlds. It would be great if people would just stop publishing anything she says…

  2. You two are both nuts. Good views, but nuts nonetheless.
Just wanted to throw that out there. ;)
