Wow, this is pretty cool!
http://www.google.com/search2001.html
It’s Google’s search index from 2001. It’s really interesting to search for things from today that didn’t exist back then. Looking for things like iPod, Twitter, Spam, and Gmail are all pretty interseting.
I should stop now. I’ve already wasted an hour searching for various things in the 2001 index…

It took the Catholic church about 300+ years or so to officially acknowledge Galileo was right about the Earth not being the center of the universe. I guess the Catholic church is stepping up that science timetable by only taking 150 years this time to do the same for Darwin.
(Check out the article here.)
Okay, I’m kidding a bit. They did at least acknowledge evolution in 1950 (according to the article). What I find especially funny about the whole thing is that the Catholics are becoming more progressive than some Protestants – since the Protestant movement was pretty much started because they thought the Catholic church was too set in their ways and wouldn’t change.

So I bought a bike over the weekend and wasn’t really sure what to expect when I got on it. I was pretty sure that I remembered how to ride. It turns out that even though I hadn’t ridden a bike in probably 15 years or more, I got right on my new bike and rode around our neighborhood. I rode around for about a half hour. It wasn’t until after I got home that I realized my legs didn’t remember how to ride quite as well as I thought they did.
Fortunately, my legs seemed to have recovered today.
I got the bike because I thought it seemed silly to drive to Target or Jewel to just buy a couple of things. I timed myself driving to Jewel to get something once. It took me approximately 11 minutes to drive to Jewel, buy something and get home. I obviously won’t be able to do the entire grocery shopping from my bike, but I will be able to go buy some small things that we need.

Ever since we bought our MacBook last year, I think the most annoying thing I’ve found was that when tabbing through a form in Firefox, it would always skip drop-down menus and checkboxes. I guess it finally annoyed me enough to where I decided to find out if there was a way to fix it – and there is!
Under System Preferences->Keyboard & Mouse, there’s an option that will allow you to switch from “Text boxes and lists only” for the tab behavior to allowing it to switch between all types of controls. (I found the information at howtogeek.com.)
Now the day seems so much brighter after solving that annoying tab problem.

Woo! I finished up all the major cutting today on my arcade cabinet. So of course, I had to put some of the big pieces together to get a good picture.
Now it’s on to lots and lots of sanding.

My MAME cabinet is finally starting to take shape! I finished cutting out one of the sides today (along with a bunch of other pieces). I might have been able to get the rest of it cut out, but we were delayed by a storm that came through. We had to close the garage door which meant that all the saw dust just lingered in there.
I was sure to get a picture of my helper too. While she played an important role in helping me maneuver the large pieces of MDF, the picture I took, of course, doesn’t really reflect that.

If anybody is looking for an easier way to upload pictures to Facebook and you have iPhoto, I would highly recommend Facebook Exporter for iPhoto. I installed this a few days ago to upload some pictures to Facebook and was very happy with how easy it was to use.
I’ve also been using iPhotoToGallery to upload pictures to my installation of Gallery2 on atchisonclan.com. I’ve been using it for quite some time now and haven’t had a single problem (at least that I remember
).
I’m still looking around for a way to make exporting movies to Gallery2 easier. At the moment, the process I use is pretty cumbersome. It’s too bad iPhotoToGallery doesn’t support exporting movies too. I’m certainly open to ideas.

I finally made the first major purchase of a project I’ve been wanting to start for awhile now. I officially have three 4′x 8′ sheets of MDF in the garage now so I can start on my MAME arcade cabinet. So in a few months (hopefully sooner) we’ll have a full-size arcade cabinet living in our basement/game room/home theater (coming soon).
Even though it took some time for her to admit it, Jessie is pretty excited about it. She’s looking forward to playing Ms. Pac-Man on a real arcade machine and not a little joystick that plugs into the TV. She even has quite a preference when it comes to the joystick on the control panel. She has requested a ball-top joystick because that’s what the original Ms. Pac-Man machine had.
When I’m done, hopefully the machine will look a lot like the machine at this link.
I’m not sure what I’ll call it when I’m done. My goal is to not name if after any kind of accident that may happen during its construction. I don’t want any machine called Finger Eater or Blood Sucker. Besides, we already got rid of the dryer that could have been nicknamed Finger Slicer.
So move over Guitar Hero. Soon enough we’ll be able to play Ms. Pac-Man and Super Mario Brothers.
